Harveen Thauli was called to the Bar of British Columbia on August 30, 1996. She has extensive experience providing legal counsel and transactional expertise in private practice and regulatory environments, including professional conduct, administrative law, civil and commercial litigation, corporate and securities law.
Harveen started Thauli Sports Law as a boutique law firm to provide legal advice on sports related matters, including advising on regulatory investigations, disciplinary proceedings, governance issues, and compliance and risk management.
Harveen is also a Chartered Arbitrator who has had conduct of a variety of subject matters, many of which have been complex, contentious or both. She has adjudicated cases, internationally and nationally.
Harveen has been a long-serving member of the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) Tribunal. The FEI is the international governing body for equestrian sport in Lausanne, Switzerland. The FEI Tribunal members adjudicate cases related to breaches of the FEI rules and regulations and have the authority to issue fines, disqualify horses or equestrians from competitions or events, and suspend equestrians for any period of time up to and including life suspensions. The FEI’s General Assembly consists of 136 National Member Federations and governs the overall direction, development and management of the FEI’s six equestrian disciplines worldwide. Harveen was elected to the FEI Tribunal by the FEI’s General Assembly for a third term ending in November 2027. She is the first Canadian member of the FEI Tribunal. She was specifically selected as one of three ad hoc Arbitrators of the FEI Tribunal for Tokyo 2020, the 2021 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.
Harveen is an appointed member to the International Tribunal of Sport Resolutions, a UK-based independent dispute resolution service for sport operating globally. Harveen was specifically selected as an ad hoc Arbitrator of the Federation Court for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Burmingham, England.
Harveen is an appointed member to the Disciplinary and Appeals Tribunal of World Athletics, the international governing body for the sport of athletics, including track and field, cross country running, road running, race walking, mountain running and ultra running. World Athletics is located in Monte Carlo, Monaco. She is also a roster arbitrator for the Ordinary and Doping Tribunals of the Sport Dispute Resolution Centre of Canada (SDRCC), which offers dispute resolution solutions for participants in the Canadian sport system. The SDRCC is based in Montreal, Canada.
